📍Room: The Front Porch
How does the world meet you… and how do you meet it?
Welcoming Yourself Home First
There comes a point where you realise…
It isn’t other people keeping you standing on the Front Porch.
It’s you.
Not because you’ve done anything wrong.
But because somewhere along the way, you started believing you had to earn your place inside.
That one day…
When you were healed enough.
Successful enough.
Confident enough.
Productive enough.
You’d finally feel at home within yourself.
Until then…
You’d wait on the threshold.
Waiting for permission
Many of us spend years searching for someone to tell us we’re enough.
A partner.
A parent.
A boss.
A friend.
A stranger on the internet.
We hope that if enough people choose us, praise us, or approve of us, we’ll finally feel like we belong.
But belonging has never been something another person could hand to you.
It’s something you decide to stop withholding from yourself.
The longest relationship you’ll ever have
Before anyone else meets you…
You meet yourself.
Every morning.
Every decision.
Every quiet moment when nobody is watching.
The relationship you have with yourself becomes the atmosphere of the entire House.
If you’re constantly criticising yourself, every room feels tense.
If you’re forever trying to prove your worth, every room feels like an audition.
If you never offer yourself grace, every room becomes somewhere you have to perform.
No amount of external validation can create a home where self-acceptance has never been invited in.
The welcome you’ve been waiting for
Imagine arriving home after a long day.
The kettle is on.
The lights are warm.
The door is already open.
No one asks you to explain yourself before you come in.
No one asks what you’ve achieved today.
No one asks whether you’ve earned your place.
You’re simply welcomed.
What if you became that place for yourself?
What if the kindness you’ve been searching for in other people began at your own Front Porch?
Coming Home
Coming home to yourself isn’t about becoming someone you’ve never been.
It’s about greeting yourself with less judgement and more compassion.
It’s about recognising that the version of you standing on the Porch today deserves the same welcome as the version you’ll become tomorrow.
You don’t have to have everything figured out before you’re allowed inside.
You don’t have to earn your place in your own home.
You already belong here.
Reflection
Perhaps you’ve been waiting for someone else to open the door.
Perhaps you’ve been standing on the Porch, hoping permission would come from somewhere outside of you.
Perhaps the welcome you’ve been searching for has been yours to offer all along.
In what ways have you been asking yourself to earn your own belonging?
What would it look like to welcome yourself with compassion today?
If you treated yourself like someone who already belonged, what would change?
Keep unpacking.
One room at a time. 🏡
